چکیده

Craniopharyngiomas are among the most common paediatric tumours and are thought to arise from embryonic remnants of Rathke's pouch. The molecular mechanisms involved in their formation remain elusive and little is known about chromosomal imbalances that could suggest the locations of tumour suppressor or proto-oncogenes involved in the pathogenesis. The paucity of published data on the molecular basis of such tumours prompted this investigation of 20 adamantinomatous and nine papillary craniopharyngiomas for genetic abnormalities by comparative genomic hybridisation (CGH). CGH revealed no DNA copy number changes in any of the 29 primary craniopharyngiomas, regardless of their histological subtype. These data suggest that chromosomal imbalances are a rare event in both adamantinomatous and papillary craniopharyngiomas.

Craniopharyngiomas : Radiological Differentiation of Two Types

OBJECTIVE To determine imaging features that may separate adamantinomatous and papillary variants of craniopharyngiomas given that tumors with adamantinomatous signature features are associated with higher recurrence rates, morbidity, and mortality. We specifically reviewed calcification on CT, T1 bright signal intensity, and cystic change on T2 weighted images for differentiating these two typ...

Recent advances in molecular pathology of craniopharyngioma

Craniopharyngiomas are rare epithelial tumours arising along the path of the craniopharyngeal duct. Two major histological subtypes have been recognised, the papillary and the adamantinomatous. Craniopharyngiomas remain challenging tumours to manage and are associated with significant morbidities and mortality. Recent advances in the molecular pathology of these neoplasms have identified BRAF m...

PROP1 and CTNNB1 expression in adamantinomatous craniopharyngiomas with or without β-catenin mutations

INTRODUCTION Activating mutations in exon 3 of the β-catenin gene are involved in the pathogenesis of adamantinomatous craniopharyngiomas. Recently, the interaction between β-catenin and PROP1 has been shown to be responsible for pituitary cell lineage determination. We hypothesized that dysregulated PROP1 expression could also be involved in the pathogenesis of craniopharyngiomas OBJECTIVES ...

Immunohistochemical Expression of β-catenin and Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor in Adamantinomatous Craniopharyngioma

Introduction: Craniopharyngiomas (CPs) are rare epithelial tumors located mainly in the sellar/parasellar region. CPs have been classified histopathologically, genetically, clinically and prognostically into two distinctive subtypes: adamantinomatous and papillary variants. Aim: To examine the pattern of expression of both the β-catenin and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in surgically ...

Pathological and Topographical Classification of Craniopharyngiomas: A Literature Review

Craniopharyngiomas (CPs) are clinically relevant tumors of the sellar region and are associated with high morbidity and occasional mortality. There are two different subtypes of CPs that differ clinically and pathologically: adamantinomatous CP and papillary CP. The differential diagnosis is still challenging even with developments in preoperative imaging as several tumors of the sellar/parasel...
